D Recommends:
The Chateau Bonnet Blanc, Entre-Deux-Mers, 2019, Bordeaux, France
Here’s a wine that stole the show at a recent wine-tasting experience I did in Bangalore. You don’t want to miss this! Read on…
About the Chateau Bonnet Blanc, AOC, Entre-Deux-Mers
From the house of Bordeaux legend, Andre Lurton, passionate winemaker, viticulturist, founder of the Pessac Leognan appellation, and so much more – comes the Chateau Bonnet Blanc, an Entre Deux Mers winery acquired by his grandfather in the 1800s.
A Sauvignon-Semillon blend: light citrus and floral aromas, lots of pear, apricot and grapefruit, dry, crisp & refreshing, yet pleasant with a soft, round finish. Great value, easy to drink, and marks its presence!
A visionary, an innovator
Innovator he was – being the first Bordeaux producer to sell a cru classe wine with a screwcap! Imagine the catastrophic response from fellow French winemakers at the time! Eventually though, he changed to corks but kept screwcaps for the Chateau Bonnet whites and roses. Just like the one you see here.
See! Some wines stand out more than just a fantastic sip in your glass. This was one of them!
- Chateau: (sha-toh) Chateau is French for a large house, a castle or an estate, followed by the name of the family or the estate, in this case, Château Bonnet
- Blend: You’ll see the grape names listed on the bottle – this wine is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (85%), and Semillon (15%), which is also called the Bordeaux Blanc blend.
- Entre-Deux-Mers: (awn-truh-dow-meyrh) The appellation which is nothing but the protected area or region used to identify where the grapes were grown, which here – is the Entre Deux Mers – meaning between two rivers
D recommends!
The appellation of Entre-Deux-Mers makes some brilliant, lively, everyday-drinking white wines, perfectly versatile for every season or occasion. The wines from this region are best enjoyed young. But can also age well because of the main grape in it – Sauvignon Blanc.
Discover the wine, but what’s more – discover the legacy and years of winemaking history behind the sip. That’s what makes it a tad bit more fascinating to drink!
The wine is imported by Gusto Imports and is priced between INR 2800-3000 across major cities.
